Called out on Flickr

I value the self policing aspects of Internet ….until I am the one called out. As the project owner for our network reg system we/I had deprioritized efforts involving text based email relative to tools to manage html based emails. Aside from the initial shock that someone took the time to post one of our confirmation emails on flickr I appreciate the fact that matthewh values CNET Networks enough to expect a higher level of service

New Era Now Begins….

A great take on the 2004/05 season and what lies ahead for good ol’ KU from Mike DeCourcey of the Sporting News.

I realize the tournament remains in full swing but for me, the season ended two weeks ago.

New KU will not look like a Williams team. But neither will it resemble much we’ve seen from Self. With exceptional athleticism and adequate depth, expect a trend toward greater defensive pressure, perhaps extended even more than the press his 2000 Tulsa team used to get to the Elite Eight.

No one said it was the Sweet 16 of Class

Yes, Knight is an asshole and he won’t let us forget that. That aside, I have really enjoyed the way the Red Raiders played this season and have a new found respect for him as a coach.

Great Star Article on Self

Suck it up , register with the KC Star, and take in this article. Nice work Jason King

He thought about seniors such as Aaron Miles and Wayne Simien, who had played their final game. Had Self let them down? He envisioned all the times he’d have to sit through replays of the loss on television, and about the criticism he was sure to receive. What could he have done differently?

In the solitude of his hotel room, Self’s emotions finally got the best of him.

“I cried,” he said. “I’m not a guy that does that a lot. But that night I felt like it was OK.”

“You go through a lot of emotions when something like this happens,” Self said. “Eventually, though, you reach a point where you get really, really mad — and then you start to fight harder.”

Self smiles.

“For me, that point is going to come real fast.”

Apple to consider subscription service

Recall the banter with RObert, Blaine, and myself….well this is back in the news again.

Given Apple’s strong relationship with the labels, insiders say Apple’s goal would be to offer 100% of its music catalog through its subscription service. Competitive services are currently able to offer up to two-thirds of their catalogs in their subscription plans because of licensing restrictions. According to sources, Apple would likely be negotiating terms where the labels would receive approximately 5 cents for each song downloaded and transferred to a music device, per month. By comparison, insiders say Apple surrenders approximately 64 cents to the labels on each of the songs it sells for 99 cents. Apple has said that iTunes has been operating at close-to break even, but has showed a slight profit in recent quarters.

My Worst Nighmare

My worst nightmare – Bucknell

Coach Williams was quoted earlier this season that playing KU in the tournament was his worst nightmare. Well, after the selections were broadcast on Sunday it dawned on me that KU’s foe on Friday – the Bucknell Bison – could be my worst nightmare. First round games are always tough and KU never seems to cover. Recall Holy Cross a few years ago, they scared the crap out of us in the round of 64. Oh yea….Bucknell and Holy Cross are both from the Patriot league.

And the Bison are good. They upended Pitt and St. Joes this season. Bucknell came into Ames and almost pulled the upset in the House of Hilton. Cripes…

The worst part of this at all – Doug Llewellyn is a graduate of Bucknell. Should KU win…yes. And if they beat Bucknell by 30…..so what. But I can’t fathom the fodder I would receive is KU were to play it close….or god forbid…even drop this one.

Let’s get this started.
