Week 5 Line-up

Gawd what a week….here it is:

  • KU – off
  • k-st at Texas(-14.5)
  • Northwestern St. at Tech (-37)
  • Louisville (-9) at NC State
  • Wildcard 1: West Virginia (-7) at South Florida This is a Friday game
  • Wildcard 2: Cal (-6) at Oregon

Be sure to get the Friday quick pick in… I’m taking West Virginia

Texask-st at Texas
Let’s rewind to the last time a school from the state of Kansas came into Austin. A team, as I’m sure you recall, who at the time could boast of a top 10 run defense. A team, the year prior, that had Vince an Co. against the ropes. A game that Texas chalked up as a revenge game. A game where Texas put up over 60 and racked up 1/3 of the total rushing yards that KU gave up that season. A KU debacle I witnessed first hand…..cripes.

k-st finds themselves in a similar situation with the exception that Texas really wants to right the wrong of ’06. Oh, and did I mention KU throttled that same k-st team a week later. Anyway….Texas puts up 40+, wins big, and sets the stage for the RRS.

TechTech at Northwestern St
Ummmmm….he in glass houses… OK given KU’s non-con I’ll leave it alone. Tech covers handedly.

Louisville at NC St
A brutal pick. My gut tells me to go with the Cards despite the fact their loss last week was bigger than Michigan’s loss to a good/great AA in Appalachian St. I mean…Jesus H…Cuse…are you kidding me. Appy would put up 40 on this Card D. Regardless, going with my gut…the Cards cover as they look to save face.

Wild card: Cal at Oregon
Too difficult to call. Who is the better test for USC…that is what it boils down to. Is it the team that beat an over-hyped Tennessee or the team that beat a downtrodden Michigan team. Both have play-makers and the game is in Eugene. Eff-it…going with the team in our backyard….go Cal.

West Virginia (-7) at South Florida
Nice Friday night tilt. A lot of respect for South Florida, but I’ll take the Mountaineers to cover..too may playmakers.

Gotta run to pick up the kids…

k-st at Texas(-14.5) – Texas big in a revenge game from lasst year… Freeman looks like Rosie O’Donnell lately… To big to get out of his own way… Horns roll…

Northwestern St. at Tech (-37) – Tech takes out last weeks’ frustrating loss on NSU… Tech covers

Louisville (-9) at NC State – No way you can take a team with UL’s defense and give this many points on the road… NC State + the 9 here is the play…

West Virginia (-7) at South Florida – Take the over whatever it is… I like So Fla and the points at home in what should be a high scoring affair…

Cal (-6) at Oregon – Oregon is my dark horse this year… Dixon is a witch at QB and they handled a Michigan team in the big house that might be the best team in the Big 10 (which this year isn’t saying much)… Nonetheless, take the Ducks and the points…

Enjoy… Looking forward to the shootout in Big D next week…

The ESPN feature story starts like this, “Noel Devine has been through his share of tragedy. After losing both parents to AIDS, he bounced around from house to house. But in West Virginia, he’s quickly found a home.” I don’t need to know anything else. (sniff) WVA to cover.

Thought I already did this for tonight’s game but I don’t see it posted. Sorry, I’ve been out of sorts due to the heartrenching loss earned by the Red Raiders last week. No matter, I took WVU to cover – analysis for tomorrow’s games to follow.

    k-st at Texas(-14.5)
Must have some vast improvements today on both sides of the ball…to even see if we can compete next week with OU. If we come out and dominate for 4 quarters, then I think we have a slim chance to knock off the Sooners in an upset. The KSU defense is legit with 7 seniors. Vince and ALL the other Longhorn Titans will be in the house – and when Vince in ON the field in Austin, we win. The Horns cover by a sliver.

    Tech at Northwestern St (-37)
WOW – what a tremendous week for media coverage inthe Big 12. Gundy and Leach had a field day! Leach pretty much threw everyone under the bus after the loss. Not today, as Tech rebounds and covers.

    Louisville (-9) at NC St
Speechless. What a blow that was last week for the ‘ville. Never one to dwell on the past, I believe Lu-vulle bounces back in a big way and covers.

    Cal (-6) at Oregon
Man, what a game this should be. My head says Cal, but my heart says Oregon. Oregon wins, but Cal covers.

The Barking Carnival Kansas State preview is absolutely worth the team’s time this morning. Here’s a little sneak preview to get you roaring:

“Wildcat fans continue to be the only fan base in the Big 12 that still wears acid-washed jeans with some regularity”

“K State averages 133 yards in penalties per game. These penalties come from two primary sources: personal fouls on defense (which speaks to aggression bordering on stupidity) and holding on offense (which speaks to the fact that a subpar OL clings more than ecstacy users at a Phish concert).”

    and a personal favorite…

“A game in Texas suggests a 25% chance of total implosion with 345 yards in penalties and Ron Prince driving a headset into an assistant’s cloaca.”

Ok, peeling myself off the floor now. With Limas Sweed back in action and a 50% chance the ‘inconsistent’ Josh Freeman will take the field today, I am behind the Horns to eek it out. They need to keep the momentum going before the big OU game next week. Then, as BC says, “Penalty/turnover/cloaca with clipboard implosion will commence.”

    Tech at Northwestern St (-37)
    Tech. Duh. CK.

    Louisville (-9) at NC St
Did Willie Williams used to play for Texas? Seriously, Miami wouldn’t even take this guy. He had a criminal record that included 11 arrests in high school for christ sake. I don’t think Louisville can get any more distracted than they are right now. What a disappointing start. NC St covers.

    Cal (-6) at Oregon
It all comes down to the uni’s for me on this one. Oregon has over 118 different game day combinations. Who can beat that? Ducks cover.

    Cal (-6) at Oregon
Man, what a game this should be. My head says Cal, but my heart says Oregon. Oregon wins, but Cal covers.

Oregon is the underdog… If they win, Cal cannot cover…

“FREAKING EXPOSED” – that should be the headline of the Austin American Statesman tomorrow morning. Just returned from the game and I’m not really that upset at all for three very good reasons:
    1. I saw my little girl ride her bike this morning without training wheels – NOTHING could ruin this perfect day.
    2. I knew Texas really sort of sucked this year and this game just crystallized everthing right in front of my very eyes. We are very mediocre and I would personally play all Freshman and Sophomores the rest of the year to start building for the future. I’m really not that upset at all…reality is just setting in.
    3. The little whOU’s down in WhOU’ville just got Christmas stold by the grinch up in Boulderville. I knew we didn’t have a good team this year, but OU knew they were heading back to another NC game – NOT now Sooners. POOR Sooners.

P.S. I sort of knew I blew the line on Oregon/Cal and almost wrote back in – chalk it up as a LOSS for me. Sorry.
