Kipe’s Call

On ESPN’s 8.31 podcast Mel Kiper – ESPN NFL draft guru who happens to be a huge fan of the college game – made the following predictions —

  1. Texas will play the ‘Ville in the Rose Bowl
  2. Vince Young will win the Heisman

This is interesting for two reasons. Mel predicted the Cards would run the table and would be the only undefeated team in the country — a BCS prayer answered. Then who does Texas, or to use a RObert reference the Cows, drop in the L column: Ohio State, OU, aTm, Tech. It can only be one if they are playing in Pasadena.

The second is, as an NFL scouting guru, he sees Vince as the Heisman pick. Granted, there is a loose at best connection between Heisman winners and NFL success but coming from Mel you know he has NFL potential on the brain. Could this mean that Vince finds an arm to compliment his legs? Can Mack assemble a committee of back and receivers that can create a diversion?

Damn I love the speculation this time of year. Well….hands will be played in coming weeks as it all starts tonight.

Kipe just curse the Horns. Brown is sure to crumble under the pressure.

I like Mel, but he is giving the Cards a bit much hype… They did lose their starting QB (LeFors), their two top RBs (Shelton and Gates), their #1 WR (J.R. Russell) and their two best defensive players (McCune and Kerry Rhodes) all to the NFL draft. Granted they had a great recruiting class, but I still see them a year away from contending. With a sophomore QB and inexperience at the skill positions this year I can’t see them going undefeated. They can win the Big East, but not go unbeaten. Next year, with experience and with Miami coming here to play, they will be set up to get big time BCS cred (if they can beat Miami)… I see them going 9-2 and (hopefully) winning the Big East.

My concern with the shorter B sqaured question of “whose going to beat the cows?” and failed to include the Pink Faders in the equation. And now I quote Pocket T: DON’T MAKE ME MAD. ERRRRRRRRRRRR
